About Lisa Wells


Lisa Wells has over 25 years of professional experience in the art world, with a background that includes independent curator, and contemporary gallery Director. Her passion and extensive art market background, coupled with an established network in the local and international art community of galleries, artists and auction house specialists informs Lisa’s approach and provides a unique expertise when advising on collections and appraising works of art.

Since 2007, Lisa has catalogued, appraised, and advised on numerous prominent private, institutional, and corporate collections, and multiple notable artists’ estates of all sizes, the largest collection containing up to 50,000 works including paintings, drawings, prints, studies and ephemera. Lisa has also served as an appraisal consultant for Jacqueline Silverman & Associates, Inc., Los Angeles., preparing select appraisal assignments as an independent contractor.

A qualified member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), and an accredited member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), Lisa is also an active member of the Modern & Contemporary Art Council at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

She holds a BA in Art History from the University of TN, Knoxville, and a certificate of completion from the University of California Irvine Extension, Certificate Program for Personal Property Appraisals, Fine and Decorative Arts, in partnership with the American Society of Appraisers.

Prior to starting her practice, Lisa was the Director of the Michael Kohn Gallery where she worked with and sold works by artists such as Bruce Conner, James Nares, Walton Ford, Maureen Gallace, Darren Waterston, Mark Ryden, and Mark Innerst, and others,, as well as secondary market works by Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and Cy Twombly, among others. Additionally, she participated in and curated booths for national and international art fairs including The Armory Show, New York; Miami Basel; Frieze London; Art Chicago, and San Francisco.
